NIDHI AGARWAL
Nidhi Agarwal likes to start from a place where she has no control. Her paintings, either on paper or canvas, usually begin with a random attack of various elements on to the virginal ground, better to be liberated from any preconceived notions of composition or expectation.
In these new works, the artist combines a variety of mark-making mediums (graphite, ink, watercolor, pastel, dry pigments, even stains from foodstuffs), resulting in sumptuously layered tapestries. These works are like a bouillabaisse, concocted within the artist’s mind to serve as mirrors for the outside world.
We are invited to wander through these contrivances, stepping gingerly to encounter both pleasure and pain. We cannot trust our senses, nor any preordained knowledge, to elucidate this path.

ABOUT NIDHI AGARWAL
Nidhi Agarwal was born in New Delhi in 1972, where she continues to live and work. A graduate of the College of Art, Delhi, her paintings are characterized by vibrant colors and aggressive brushstrokes. Predominantly abstract, her works often include figurative elements and linguistic symbols. She also works on paper and with fabrics, creating collage works that are infused with humor and steeped in complexity.
